Born in Hong Kong in 1969, Sean Lau Ching Wan got his start by enrolling in the TVB training school. Lau impressed directors and producers with his talent and work ethic, but failed to catch on with the Hong Kong audience. For ten years, he worked on dozens of television shows without much success until appearing in a drama about the stock market, THE GREED OF MAN.

The show gave Lau the opportunity to work in films, but major roles still eluded him so he tried his fortunes in Taiwan. Still, Lau could only find work on the television and contemplated leaving the industry altogether until he was contacted by a fellow TVB alumni to star in a romantic drama. The film was a huge hit and Lau finally achieved film stardom.

Lau has proven himself as one of the most versatile actors in Hong Kong, and has become one of the region's most popular actors. A quick glance at his filmography reveals a man who is able to give great performances in every genre of film. To top it off, his work in Johnnie To's A HERO NEVER DIES has garnered him international attention.

Off-screen, Lau leads a fairly normal life with his wife, former Miss Hong Kong Amy Kwok, and is one of the nicest and down-to-earth people in the show biz. In a time when top Hong Kong actors move overseas, retire or raise their paychecks, Lau seems devoted to working in Hong Kong and freezes his asking price in order to help keep the industry thriving.
