Fate Figher: Gambling On Destiny

December 2005 – Press Release
FATE FIGHTER
Gambling On Destiny

Manila, 1 Dec 05 – Hong Kong comedian Nick Cheung Ka-Fai rolls out this gambling story with a twist. Two half-brothers are dealt two different fates – and now, one of them wants to put both their destinies on the gambling table for a final showdown! With an interesting premise and exciting CGI gambling sequences, here is a film that promises to keep you on the edge of your seat! Premiering Saturday, Dec 3 at 21:00 on STAR CHINESE MOVIES.

Fate Fighter tells the tale of half-brothers Nick Cheung and Alex To Tak-Wai. Nick, who is believed to be jinxed, is kicked out of the family with his mom not long after his birth. It soon becomes clear that his half-brother Alex is the real culprit who’s attracting all the recent misfortunes. When Alex’s parents are killed in an accident, Nick’s mom takes him under her roof and switches the two boys’ identities. Since then, Nick is swamped with bad luck while Alex becomes blessed with great fortune…except their fates are due to reverse at age 30. Now, Alex must steal Nick’s good luck, or risk losing all of his. The two brothers will put their lives on the gambling table, and see who will take home the ultimate prize.

“In Fate Fighter, director Steve Cheng Wai-Man adopts a cautious yet equally exceptional approach to distinguish his work with the plethora of gambling films on the market. First, he chooses Nick Cheung, a veteran actor in this genre (who ironically knows nothing about gambling in real life), as the lead man…More interestingly, the director beefs up the gambling theme with fengshui and adds a genius mathematician as a special character to balance superstition with fact-based logics.” – City Entertainment
